Winter Has Arrived !!! :(

The cold weather is here along with the snow and the wind! Yuck!! :( Since the Large Animal work has slowed due to the outside conditions we get a chance to catch up on all the inside work like cleaning, organizing and ofcourse blogging! :) The clinic still remains busy with small animals coming and going. We thought we would refresh people a little bit on things to think about and watch for during the holiday season and cold weather. As we ready our vehicles for winter we add antifreeze to keep things running smoothly. Antifreeze is very toxic to our pets! If you see your pet drink even a small amount  or suspect that your pet has, contact the Veterinary Clinic immediately. We also need to make sure our pets are kept warm and dry. If you are not able to bring your pet inside try to insulate their house, add blankets or straw and if possible without causing a fire hazard add a heat lamp. If you are not able to give your pet fresh water thoughout the day you may want to purchase a heated water bowl. They are reasonable to operate and keeps the water open so your pet can stay hydrated. :)  During the Holiday Season we have many appetizing, new and exciting objects (Oraments, tinsil, wrapping paper ect...) also many yummy foods ( Chocolates, Cookies, Ham ect...). Depending on your pet you may have to keep those extra goodies up high so they can't reach them or in some cases if your pet can truely not be trusted you may have to withhold from putting certain things out at all. We have so much delicious food this time of year, looks, smells and tastes fabulous, but are not a good choice for your beloved 4-legged friend to dine on. People food can cause vommitting, diarrhea and in some cases Pancreatitis which can cause your pet to require Veterinary care to recover and in some severe cases can be fatal. We would like to wish all of our clients and their pets a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season! :)
